"Marvin is my best buddy. We're like brothers. And brothers don't talk out of school about their secrets."
— Clyde Roses to Eddie, Emery and Evan Huang

Clyde Roses is a United States Navy veteran and a best friend of Marvin Ellis. He is portrayed by Keith David.

History[]

"In '68, Marv and I were driving across country, took a stop in New Orleans, met some swamp ladies. Well, we had a few drinks and... I can't finish this story."
―Clyde Roses to Eddie, Emery and Evan Huang[src]

Clyde Roses served in the United States Navy, where he met and befriended Marvin Ellis. The pair often worked together on and off duty, involving themselves with numerous women, including a road trip they took in 1968 which brought them to New Orleans. Following their discharge from duty, Clyde followed Marvin to the Rust Belt, where they both began work at a General Motors plant. The pair soon went separate ways, with Marvin going to school and becoming a dentist while Clyde owned and operated a scrapyard in Pine Hills, Florida.

In 1999, Clyde was invited to Marvin's retirement party, which was held at Louis Huang's Cattleman's Ranch Steakhouse. While at the party, Clyde met Eddie Huang, who wished to find a spoiler for his station wagon. Since he had a spoiler at the scrapyard, Clyde gave Eddie his business card. Eddie, along with his brothers Emery and Evan, paid Clyde a visit at the scrapyard, attempting to glean one of Marvin's secrets in order to blackmail him into keeping one of their own. While Clyde initially was open to sharing stories, he found himself unable to do so as they involved women, deeming the boys too young to hear it. Clyde then informed that that Marvin was like his brother and that brothers did not divulge the other's secrets, before leaving the room, needing to fire up his magnet so that he could move the cars in the yard around.[1]
