This section needs a rewrite |
The episode begins with Evan doing a recap of season one; it is then shown that he is signing this in a kid's yearbook, at the yearbook signings at the end of the school year. Emery is at his table, signing yearbooks with his "autographs" to all of the girls who love him at the school. Eddie is saying goodbye to Nicole, sad because of the fact that she will be leaving next year. He later talks to his friends, telling them that he will be doing something amazing over the summer for next year, but they warn him that he needs to bring proof that he did that or else he will be shunned for lying like "Fake Kay Anderson". Eddie tells them that he's "pumped" for the next year, referencing to him getting a new pair of '95 Reebok pumps. Eddie spends his entire summer, sitting on the couch and watching TV, to keep his pumps preserved until he sees a horrifying news report from Ed Lover, announcing that Jo Stockman has been seen wearing those exact shoes and that they are no longer cool anymore.
Louis is getting ready for a business trip and shows Jessica that he bought a new Sharkskin suit for work, hoping that this will me a more notable characteristic about his person than being Chinese but Jessica doesn't think it will work. She then gives the kids their new clothes which comes as a dismay to Evan and Eddie. Eddie because he needs some new cool clothing, but all of his shirts have pictures of people such as Jefferson Starship and Reading Rainbow, simply because they were black, and Evan because he is getting shoes with laces instead of Velcro, which means that he is growing into a "big boy" and is no longer the "baby" of the family.
Honey comes to visit Jessica for their next book club but she is stressed out because of all the work she's been doing. Honey suggests that they go on vacation, but she laughs in her face because of this. Louis calls her, asking where his suspenders are and she so comes into the closet to find them for him, and notices that his swim trunks are missing. She gets suspicious about this "business trip" that he's going on and confronts him about it, asking him he brought along things like swim trunks and tennis balls, suspecting that he's going on a vacation. Louis continues to deny this and says that they're just having their business meeting at "Gator World". Eddie overhears this and gets excited, because of a ride called The Death Roll, which would gain his popularity at school and begs Jessica to let them all go. Jessica decides to have the entire family come along for Louis' little "Family Business Trip".
As they pack up their bags in their car, Eddie explains to Emery that The Death Roll is a pretty scary ride and if you make it out, you get a souvenir t-shirt. Emery wasn't too enthusiastic about the ride, but he was happy to see his friends say goodbye to him. After a long ride and singing the tunes of Gator World, they finally arrive at the hotel. The Huangs noticed a group of older guys partying in the lobby, though Louis tries to play it off as "college kids". They walk up to the front desk for check in, but because there is an additional fee for more than 4 guests, Jessica pretends some of them are just "visiting". However, Jessica's suspicions started to rise when Gator Carol mentioned that Louis booked a massage and a dinner reservation at a steak house, and even faxed his credit card and license. Though Louis claims it's a fraud and it wasn't him. The family then heads up to their room, and Jessica proceeds to take advantage of everything there. She took some shampoos, turn on all the lamps, and even turn the AC up to high. At the same time, she also threw away the keys to the snack bar, took the batteries out of the TV remote, and burned the Room Service menu. Jessica then asks Louis if she should call the DMV about the credit card fraud. Louis claims its fine, but he is able to get her to back down by mentioning the additional fees for making calls.
Louis and the rest of the family go their separate ways, with Jessica, the boys, and Grandma Huang going to the pool to swim and have some lunch. And Louis staying in the freezing room pretending to be at the convention center. As Jenny comments the ladies tanning nearby, Eddie starts complaining to Jessica that he wants to go to Gator World now. Jessica tells him they will go later and they will hang out at the pool first. But their plans quickly change when an employee tells them they can't bring outside food into the pool. They head to Gator World but they were denied access since they have to pay $55 for adult tickets and $45 for kid tickets since the hotel is separate from the park. However, Jenny is allowed in for free! Jessica tries to convince Gator Dan that her kids are 5 and under so they can get in for free. But he wasn't buying it, especially since Evan was wearing sneakers with laces. So as an alternative, Jessica takes the kids on the parking lot shuttle while Jenny is having a blast on a roller coaster.
With Jessica out of sight, Louis can finally relax with the other guys and have wings and Bud Lights with them at the hot tub. But at the steak house, Jessica catches Louis and asks why is he not at the convention center. Louis tries to play another cover up, until he realizes the guys at the table quickly ran away. Louis finally admits to her that this was a vacation and also admits to her that he's been taking vacations even when they were living in Washington D.C.
They head back to their room and Louis tells the boys to "go to their rooms". Which is just their sleeping bags. They go inside and Louis explains to her that he does this because it recharges him, and didn't want to mention it to her since Jessica doesn't believe in vacations. Jessica is annoyed since he didn't consider if Jessica needed one too. She even admits that if they go on vacation, the family will fall apart. But Louis assures that taking a vacation will be refreshing for the family considering the two work hard all year, and starts teaching her how to relax. He first turns down the AC to low and then books a massage for Jessica despite her protests. He then announces that he's now in charge of the vacation and decides to allow Eddie to go to Gator's World on his own while Emery and Evan stay in the room.
Jessica then heads over to the spa, but she still refuses to relax while getting her message. She left her clothing on because she thinks the masseuse will steal her stuff, and hangs onto her purse so she can see it. The masseuse assures she'll be fine and decides to put on some relaxing noises from humpback whales. Jessica questions why would whales be happy, to which the masseuse tells her its because they are weightless and free. This causes Jessica to cry since she wants the same desire the whales have as well. Eventually, she learns to finally relax and feel refreshed. Louis is happy that Jessica is enjoying herself and decides to go check out at the front desk. However, Louis is shocked to find out the bill was high, and was even charged additional hidden fees. He's even more confused on how someone in the family payed for a hairdo since no one mentioned it to him. (Turns out Jenny got it). Louis tells Jessica the news, and she wasn't surprise and tells him she couldn't warn him because their relaxing. Louis then realizes that it's actually good that Jessica is on their side when their on vacation because she's always looking out for them. So Jessica goes back to the front desk and gets Gator Carol to drop the hidden fee charge by pretending Evan's last baby teeth was knocked out at the pool and their were no signs, or lifeguards on duty. (Though in reality, Jessica pulled it out with her hands). Along with that, they got an additional discount for having AAA.
The Huangs are happy that they got a nice relaxing vacation, but Evan is happier since he's the "baby" of the family again. However, Eddie is still waiting in line at The Death Roll. After waiting for 2 hours, he finally arrives at the front of the line. But he quickly bails out when a kid is ushered out in a stretcher telling him he died and was brought back to life. Because he no longer has anything to prove he did something cool over the summer, he makes up a story to his classmates about his "experience" on The Death Roll. Though Brock and his friends knew he's lying because the "shark" tooth that Eddie was wearing was Evan's tooth. Eddie admits the story was false and claims he sat at home all summer. But Nicole all of a sudden shows up and claims its cool that he chilled at home and wished she did the same. She even calls Eddie his best friend! It turns out the reason Nicole is back at Abraham Lincoln Middle School is because she failed 8th grade and never took summer school. This quickly earns the respect from his classmates unlike Eddie's friend Brian who just recently watched The Mask and even dressed up as Stanley Ipkiss.

Quotes[]
Jessica: You don't need so many suits. The convention is only two days. Louis: All the franchise power players are gonna be there. I need to make a good impression. "Which one's Louis Huang?" "Oh, he's the steakhouse owner in the sharkskin suit." Jessica: Or "he's the Chinese guy." |
Eddie: Mom, when can we go back-to-school shopping? Jessica: Right now! Emery, here's Eddie's old clothes. Evan, here's Emery's. Emery: [to Evan] I've got some good stuff in there. You're gonna love it. Evan: What are these? Jessica: No more velcro. You're old enough for laces now. Emery: No more velcro, your last baby tooth... congratulations. You're in the big-kid club. Evan: But I'm the baby. "Baby Evan"? It's my brand. Eddie: Mom, I'm begging you... I need new school gear. It starts in a week, and I have nothing! Jessica: I already bought you new t-shirts for school, the kind you like... with black men on them. Eddie: These guys aren't rappers! Jessica: They were the gangsters of the sales bin. |
Gator Carol: I'm Gator Carol. How can I help you today? Louis: Hi. Reservation for Louis Huang. Gator Carol: And how many people will be staying in the room? Jessica: How many people are allowed to stay in the room before we incur an additional charge? Gator Carol: Two adults and two children. Jessica: That's how many will be staying in the room. These two are just visitors... family in the area. We're just catching up. |
Louis: You are ruining my vacation! Jessica: I knew this was a vacation! I knew it! Eddie: Well, you got me, Jessica. You win. For two days a year, I drink Bud Lights, play tennis, and eat hot wings. Jessica: Moving to the white suburbs has made you soft. Louis: Woman, I've been soft! I've been taking business trips for years, ever since I worked at Steve's furniture store in D.C – the mattress expo in Philly, the credenza-con in Delaware. Jessica: The upholstery seminars in Montreal? Louis: Oui. |
Jessica: Hello. So, I was just going through our bill, and we will not be paying any of your hidden fees. Gator Carol: Ma'am, you can't choose what part you pay. Jessica: Yes, I can. Tell them what happened, baby. Evan: I was running by the pool 'cause there's no lifeguard on duty. Jessica: And no posted signage. Evan: And no posted signage. And I fell. And my tooth was knocked out of my head. Gator Carol: Oh, my God. Jessica: Your bill didn't include my child-disfigurement fee. And that's how I get you. Oh, we also have AAA, so it's another 10% off. |
Louis: I can't believe you got the hotel charges reduced. You are on a different level. Jessica: [to Evan] Good job, my baby. Evan: Thanks, mommy. The baby is back. Emery: Was that true? Did you really fall by the pool and lose your tooth? Evan: No. Mom ripped it out with her hands. |
