Quotes[]
Louis: It's your mom's great-aunt's second cousin, so very closely related. Emery: Are those her sisters? Jessica: Yes. They were triplets. Trina was the oldest, then Gina, then Yu-Mei. Evan: If I were a triplet, I'd have one do my homework, one do my chores, and one get into shenanigans. Eddie: They're not your clones. Also, you're one of them. Evan: Oh, now you're into math. |
Mr. Chu: You look well. Jessica: You too. Have you eaten? Mr. Chu: Not yet, but I will. Are you warm enough? Jessica: Yes. I brought a light sweater. Mr. Chu: Good. I'm going to go find a chair with some padding. The wood on these looks subpar. Nice to see you. Jessica: Okay. Nice to see you. Evan: Who was that man? Jessica: Oh, that was my father. Eddie: Hold up. That was your dad?! Jessica: What? Oh, you thought he would look older? What can I say? We have good genes. Emery: We didn't know you had a dad. You never talk about him. I thought he was dead. Jessica: Of course he's not dead. No one in my family has died before the age of 90... Except for Great-Uncle Xi, and he loved his menthols. Louis: He used to swallow the butts. Evan: So, how come we've never met our grandfather? Jessica: You've met him. He waved at you through the hospital window after you were born. He's a diplomat, and he works all over the world, so we didn't see him that much. Emery: So, when did he get divorced from Grandma Chu? Jessica: Divorced?! Don't be ridiculous! They're still married. And they still see each other every few years, and he always sends her coasters from the Hard Rock in every city he visits. Evan: I've seen those. That means your dad's been to Copenhagen. Jessica: He travels a lot. That's how it always was in my family. My mom was around, my dad was away. |
Evan: Eddie, I have a serious question for you. Eddie: Just do it in the shower. Evan: What? Eddie: Hm? Evan: Okay... I just wanted to ask you if you would be the executor of my will. Eddie: Really? You want me to do it? Evan: Yeah. You're my oldest brother. Eddie: Yeah, okay. I'll do you proud, little bro. |
Emery: Eddie told me you picked him as your will person. Evan: Executor. Emery: Whatever. Why wouldn't you choose me? Evan: As soon as your bad-luck year ends, I'll revise my will again and make you executor. Emery: Oh. So Eddie's just a temp? Evan: Of course. You're the reliable one. But let's face it – Right now, you can't even keep track of a tie. |
Emery: Don't do that. Eddie: Sorry. Can't help it. Just practicing my big-bro ruffle, like big brothers do. Emery: You're technically older, but I'm the one everybody counts on. Eddie: Not everyone. Evan chose me to be his will person. He trusts me with his stuff, not you. Emery: I said don't do that. You're getting tot grease in my bangs. Eddie: You sound mad, middle brother. Emery: Evan didn't pick you. He's just waiting out my year of bad luck, and then he's gonna make me his will person. Because I'm better. You're just a temporary fix. |
Emery: Grandma told me about the tie. Thank you. Eddie: Oh, it's no big deal. You were just so stressed about losing it, and I was at the mall anyway, trying to help Trent find flattering overalls. It took a while. Emery: I'm sorry I was a jerk earlier. Eddie: I was a jerk, too. When Evan asked me to be his will person, I didn't know I was just a placeholder. It was just cool thinking I could be the big brother for once. Emery: You're a great big brother. You replaced that tie without even telling me. Eddie: When you're having a bad year, sometimes, you just need good stuff to happen. Trust me, I know. Emery: This bad-luck year sucks. Eddie: Want to know a secret? This "year of the bad luck" thing? It's just puberty. And it gets worse and lasts way longer than a year. Emery: Oh, no. Eddie: At least we're in it together. |
Mr. Chu: Well, nice to see you. I'll continue to keep tabs on you through your mother. Jessica: Great. I'll do the same. Mr. Chu: Jessica. When the time does come, just know – All my affairs are in order. It won't be a hassle for you. |
