Eddie Huang and Jessica Huang

"Living While Eddie" is the fifteenth episode of the third season of Fresh Off the Boat. It first aired on February 28, 2017.

Synopsis[]

After her precious morning papaya goes missing and the dishwasher was used for its actual purpose rather than just a drying rack, Jessica automatically accuses Eddie as the culprit. Yet when a record store manager accuses him of stealing a CD, she realizes he has other motives for his actions. Quotes[]

Eddie: I don't get it. Why would she put dirty plates in the drying rack?
Evan: That's just it, Eddie. It's not a drying rack. It's a dishwasher.
Eddie: You mean the thing we put our dishes in after we wash them in the sink? The drying rack.
Evan: Darn it, Edwyn! That's what I'm telling you! It's a machine that washes the dishes for you. With jets of water that shoot on the plates.
Eddie: We've had a dishwasher this whole time? Why haven't we been using it?
Jessica: Because this family doesn't believe in dishwashers. It was there when we moved in. We'll never use it.
Evan: Why not?
Jessica: Because it's wasteful. It makes you soft, and it's hard on the dishware. Chinese people respect their nice plates. That's why they're called "China."
Jessica: Eddie, I specifically told you not to use the dishwasher.
Eddie: I didn't!
Jessica: Then why are the plates warm?
Eddie: It's Florida. Everything's warm.
Reggie: Okay, Louis, are you ready to eat some salad?
Louis: Call me the Titanic, 'cause I'm about to tear into some iceberg.
Louis: Hey, um, that thing I said about the Titanic earlier, I didn't mean to offend anyone. That was a huge tragedy.
Louis: Oh, I see what's going on here. Making me nervous about being on TV, wishing me luck. You were sabotaging me from the start.
Emery: I don't feel bad. When I found out what the lights were, I knew I wanted to be in front of them. Sorry, Dad. It's "infomercial," not "friend-mercial."
Jessica: I knew it. I knew you were lying all along, about the dishwasher, eating my papaya.
Eddie: Oh, I didn't eat your papaya. Papayas are gross. Those slimy black seeds? Ugh! Hard pass.
Jessica: Well, if you didn't eat my papaya, who did?
Eddie: I don't want to say.
Jessica: Eddie, tell me!
Eddie: I can't. I live by a code.
Jessica: Howie, put him in jail!
Eddie: Fine. It was Evan.
Jessica: Evan? Really?
Eddie: It wasn't his fault. He didn't mean to eat your breakfast. He just has a weakness for tropical fruit. He also has a clean record, so I took the fall for him. I mean, what's another papaya on my rap sheet?
Jessica: You mean you sat and watched me eat your Irish elf cereal just so your little brother wouldn't get into trouble?
Eddie: Yeah. Of course. Uh, Mom, are you okay?
Jessica: I'm proud of you, Eddie.
Eddie: Really? So you're not mad that I lied?
Jessica: No, I'm not mad.
Eddie: So, you're saying sometimes it's good to lie?
Jessica: No. Don't make me mad again.
Eddie: You lied about us having a dishwasher. Isn't that hypocritical?
Jessica: Eddie, there is something called a "white lie." And that is a lie that protects you from all the things that make white people soft.
Emery: I guess I'm more nervous than I thought I'd be.
Louis: It's okay. You can do this. Yes, I was a little upset when I heard about the recast, but if it can't be me, I'm happy it's you. Salad Eater is the second role you were born to play.
Emery: What was the first?
Louis: Fantastic son.
Emery: Thanks, Dad. I understand now. You're trying to throw me off my game, make me think my mediocre performance is fine so I don't strive to be the best. Well, it's not going to work.
Louis: What? No...
Emery: Get out of my eyeline.
Eddie: If the CD skips, you must acquit.
Howie: I guess it is yours. My mistake.
Jessica: "My mistake"? That's it? You falsely accused my son of being a thief! You need to make this right.
Howie: How would I do that?
Jessica: You're gonna buy back his music disc at full price. Or else I will tell everyone that your store profiles Asians. Institutional bias.
Howie: But it's a Street Fighter soundtrack from two years ago, a-and it skips. No one's gonna buy it.
Jessica: Eddie, what's that sound like to you?
Eddie: Not our problem.
