"Ride the Tiger" is the sixteenth episode of the fourth season of Fresh Off the Boat. It first aired on February 6, 2018.
Synopsis[]
For Chinese New Year, the Huangs play a game where they can only speak in Mandarin, which quickly turns into a tense competition between Jessica and Evan, putting Jessica's first televised interview for her novel in jeopardy. Emery is excited to end his year of bad luck and finally ask his crush to the spring fling, but when he is still having trouble, Louis decides to take matters into his own hands. Meanwhile, Eddie doesn't receive a red envelope from Big Auntie and enlists Grandma Huang's help to figure out why she's angry with him.

Errors/Inconsistencies[]
- Louis tells Emery that he struggled when he came to the United States as he had difficulty speaking the language. However, in "Bring the Pain", it was shown that Louis could speak fluent English back when he lived in Taiwan prior to his emigration.
- Evan speaks in Mandarin to Marvin, who does not understand him, with Jessica notifying Evan that Marvin does not know Mandarin. However, in "Time to Get Ill", Marvin understood Grandma Huang and was even able to speak to her in Mandarin, explaining that he had learned the language while being stationed in Macau.
Quotes[]
Trent: Hey, Celeste? I'm Trent. You don't know me, but I'm here as an age-appropriate face so you won't freak out. Are you freaking out? Celeste: Uh, no? Trent: Great. Okay, Mr. Huang! All good! Louis: Hi! I'm Emery's dad. Didn't want you to open the door and find a 40-year-old strange man wanting to talk to you. Celeste: What's happening? Trent: Relax, Celeste. I'm your age, so that makes all of this normal. |
Alex Trebek: In 1949, mainland China became a communist state with this man as its leader. Evan: Mao Zedong! Contestant: Who is Mao Zedong? Alex Trebek: You're right. Marvin: Unh-unh! Nope, nope. Sorry, Evan. You have to answer in the form of a question. Yeah. Jeopardy!’s a tough game, kid. |
