As Valentine's Day approached, Eddie wished to take Alison out to the Janet Jackson concert, although he did not buy tickets, instead opting to win them through a local radio contest. With the help of Trent, the pair used both the landline and the fax phone line to constantly call the radio station when Trent finally won. While Eddie intended to use the two tickets for himself and Alison, Trent wished to keep one of the tickets as he was a big Janet Jackson fan and since he was the one who technically won, and stipulated that either Eddie or Alison could claim the second ticket. Eddie however informed Alison of the situation and brought her to the concert, where he revealed his plan: to take the two tickets, which had very good seats, and trade them with a scalper for three okay seats, although the scalper stole the tickets and ran off. Eddie, Alison and Trent then spent the night listening to the concert from the outside when they were approached by two of Janet Jackson's producers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who offered them complimentary VIP seats for the next night's concert. However, as they returned the next night, they realized that their three seats were hidden behind a pillar, which obstructed them from seeing anything.[1]
After Eddie's mixtape to Alison ends up in Reba's hands, who decides to proclaim Eddie as her boyfriend on the school's PA system, Trent pulls the fire alarm just before Reba can say Eddie's name out loud, saving his friend. Trent then asks his friends to apologize to the fire department on his behalf and to notify them that he is aware of their importance.[2] Trent later approaches Eddie at school after discovering that Louis is participating in the North Orlando Chili Cook-Off, and is flabbergasted that Eddie has actually been chosen by his father to be a chili apprentice. However, he is floored when Eddie reveals he quit after Louis refused to listen to his ideas, retorting that as apprentice he needs to shut up and listen to his father, who is actually a chef, and amusingly remarks that after spending a mere two days in the chili kitchen, Eddie believes he can give ideas. As Eddie walks away, Trent tells him to take his attitude to a pie-eating contest instead. Trent attended the Chili Cook-out, eating multiple helpings of Marvin's Burger King Whopper chili and falling asleep at the chili stand as a result.[3]

While at work at Louis Huang's Cattleman's Ranch Steakhouse, Trent sits down with Marvin and Mervin Ellis to listen to Louis and Eddie's sexual education talk that they wish to give to Evan. After they finish, Trent tells them that he is grateful his sisters gave him "The Talk" since all he got was confused after listening to Louis and Eddie. This prompts Louis to get a woman's perspective, and he thanks Trent for the idea.[4]
Trent and his family then take a road trip to Ball State University in Indiana to visit his sister's dorm. This inspires Louis to take his family to a college campus as well, which leads the Huang family to taking a flight to California to pay a visit to UCLA.[5] Trent was present at Jenny Huang's retirement party at Cattleman's Ranch, where he played the piano while Jessica sang karaoke. He was later enlisted by Louis for help dismantling the hot tub in the garage.[6]
Trent is sitting at the lunch table with his friends when Eddie returns to sit with them after hanging out with his girlfriend, Tina, and listens to Eddie as he talks about how he does not want Jessica or Tina to meet. Trent heads to Cattleman's Ranch after school for work, where he gushes over the new napkins that feature various Orlando landmarks. Shortly after at school, Trent once again sits with his friends for lunch when Eddie discusses how Jessica and Tina becoming friends is much more worse than them hating one another. Trent then humorously adds that with him and Louis being friends along with Jessica and Tina getting along, all he would have to do is introduce his sister Tracy to Grandma Jenny and then they would have a dinner party.[7]
Trent pays a visit to the Huang house at Louis' request to help set up a haunted house at Cattleman's, and heads to the master bedroom. Shortly after, Jessica walks in and demands to know why Trent is in their bedroom, and as Trent sits down on the bed, she tells him not to. Louis tells Jessica that since she did not allow the haunted house to be set up at their home, he is working with Trent to host one at Cattleman's, and asks for Jessica to host the middle school's children's costume contest in his stead. As she agrees, Trent and Louis smile at one another.
Trent is informed of Louis' actual agenda, and stays at Cattleman's as Louis enacts his plan. Lying on the floor due to a bad back, he falls asleep and is awoken by Jessica, who wonders why there is no one there and why he is on the floor. Although adamant to keep Louis' secret, Jessica exploits his back injuries and he confesses the truth to her.[8]
Eddie and Trent are handling the shipment of food delivered to Cattleman's, discussing the newfound responsibility that has been thrust upon them, with Trent believing he may even get a promotion. Just then, Louis walks in to check what food has been delivered to them, only to find that all the boxes are filled with nuts. The three ponder on what kind of nuts they have been given when the delivery man divulges that they are chestnuts. When Louis asks the man how he knows that, the man replies that it is because he is a 'chestnut', revealing himself to be none other than Matthew Chestnut.
Chestnut apologizes for leaving Louis, but asks to come back. Trent is confused as to who Chestnut is, and Eddie explains to him that Chestnut was Louis' right-hand man before he left to manage restaurant vendors at Dollywood. While Louis initially seems to be angry at Chestnut, facing off against him, he agrees to bring Chestnut back as his partner, reinstating him as a manager. Chestnut then informs them that he left all of their onions in the parking lot under the sun in order to do his chestnut bit, and Louis orders Eddie and Trent to retrieve them, much to Trent's chagrin, who claims that his chances of being promoted to manager are over.
At Cattleman's, Louis is holding an employees meeting where he discourages hiding rubber snakes in the fire extinguisher, despite being the culprit responsible. When Chestnut cites that Louis owning up to his mistake makes him a good leader, Trent makes a snide remark about Chestnut being "up Louis' ass." Eddie suggests that they implement a suggestions box so that employees can anonymously share ideas, which Louis initially considers until Chestnut states that back in Dollywood, Dolly Parton did not have a suggestion box as she had two ears to hear any suggestions. Louis then shuts down the idea, informing his staff that they can talk directly to Chestnut regarding any questions or concerns. Louis then dismisses them so that he could go home and work on his garden, and Chestnut walks away with him to discuss the garden.
After Louis tells Jessica that Chestnut convinced him not to grow a vegetable garden and instead retain his focus on the restaurant, Jessica enlists Trent and Eddie to help her get rid of Chestnut. Since she told Louis that she would support him 100%, she cannot talk to Louis directly and instead decides to conspire with the boys to get Chestnut to leave, citing that he once left for Dollywood and may once again leave if the right offer comes his way. Jessica, Eddie and Trent head to Cattleman's, with the boys sitting at a corner table while Jessica alerts Chestnut to Eddie and Trent's "suspicious behavior."
Chestnut then approaches Eddie and Trent, who unconvincingly try to hide an application form to a Tony Roma's restaurant, one that has full benefits including dental. Chestnut asks who the manager is, and Eddie, panicking, tells him that his name is Donny Worthington. As Chestnut walks away with the fake application, Eddie gleefully announces that Chestnut 'totally fell for it', while Trent claims he remembers nothing as he was entirely in character.
Returning to the Huang house, Jessica, Eddie and Trent are toasting their assumed victory with lemonade when Louis enters, upset about not being able to trust anymore. Jessica assures him that he had no idea Chestnut would abandon him once more, but Louis reveals that Chestnut did not; instead, Chestnut informed him of a fake application Eddie and Trent gave him to lure him away, with the manager being "Donny Worthington", the name of the author of Jessica's Teacher Administration Book. Eddie apologizes to Jessica, citing that he panicked and that she never addressed a manager's name during rehearsal, revealing to Louis that Jessica was involved. Trent then excuses himself and Eddie to retreat to the latter's bedroom to allow Jessica and Louis to argue privately.
With Chestnut having convinced Louis to evolve his vegetable garden into a beer garden, Cattleman's German beer hall, dubbed Cattlehaus Biergarten, officially launches. Trent tells Eddie that Chestnut is growing on him. watching Chestnut as he works the beer taps with Louis. Chestnut then approaches the boys carrying multiple beer steins. Eddie, in surprise, asks Chestnut how he can carry so many at the same time, having struggled with the weight of two steins himself, and Chestnut mirthlessly retorts that he built up his arm strength crawling out of Louis' ass, hearkening back to Trent's comment during the employee meeting. Trent and Eddie then dress up to dance to Bavarian folk music on stage; while Eddie is humiliated, despite performing with a smile, Trent joyfully tells his friend that he has never felt prettier.[9]
While at work, Trent informs Eddie that a table has ordered their fifth appetizer, and Eddie performs a belly roll for them, a new incentive he had come up with for customers who order four appetizers or more. Shortly after, Trent injures himself and has his arm in a sling, telling Louis that he would not be able to work for a while, disclosing that he had lateral epicondylitis, or tennis elbow. Following his recovery, Trent returns to work and sits with two of customers as Eddie serves them with Cow Baos, an Asian fusion dish he created. Enjoying the dish, with one customer proclaiming that she would pay a hundred dollars to eat it, Trent tells Louis that he has to put it on the menu.
Sometime later, the Huang family all go to Cattleman's to watch the aired episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire that Louis starred on. Trent serves them with seven Cow Baos and tells Eddie that he owes his own table a belly roll, and that Chestnut had been filling in during Eddie's absence. The family then notice Chestnut pulling up his shirt and parading his octopus "champ stamp" to a dining family. Trent then gives the phone to Jenny, telling her that she has a phone call, and takes the phone back from her after she is finished.[10]
Shortly after Thanksgiving, Trent pays a visit to the Huang house after Louis calls him for help building a gingerbread house. After inspecting the prototype of the gingerbread house and being notified they had to make it life-sized, Trent tells Louis that he didn't make anything easy, only for Louis to reply that he easily gives Trent three days of vacation time per year. Jessica, noticing Louis' burgeoning success, gives him a day to finish the house rather than a week, causing Trent to inform Louis that there was no way they could build the gingerbread house by tomorrow. Louis and Trent then build a shoddy gingerbread shack instead, with Louis claiming it was barely being held together by nails, while in reality, Trent was inside the shack propping up the walls and providing structural support. He later notices a rat inside the shack and freaks out, although Louis walks away.[11]
As SAT scores begin to get delivered, Eddie enlists Trent's help to delay Jessica from seeing his score, fearful that it would be low. Trent borrows binoculars and his sister Trish's cellphone and positions himself in the bushes in front of Eddie's house, monitoring Eddie's mailbox while also pretending to be Trish when her boyfriend calls. Assuring Eddie that Jessica could not see him, he continues his surveillance, informing him that Brian had received a low score. Trent eventually spots Eddie's scores being delivered and intercepts it, and notifies Eddie that he received a score of 1500.[12]
